How it works
An llms.txt file in three steps.
llms.txt is a short Markdown file that tells AI assistants who you are and which pages matter. It is to AI search what a sitemap is to Google.

3. You upload it
Copy or download llms.txt and put it in your site’s root folder so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt.

About llms.txt.
What is an llms.txt file?
llms.txt is a plain-text Markdown file at the root of your website (yoursite.com/llms.txt). It gives AI assistants a short summary of your business and links to your most important pages, so they can understand your site quickly and accurately. The format is described at llmstxt.org.
Does llms.txt help my business show up in ChatGPT or Perplexity?
It is a young standard and no AI company guarantees it is used for ranking, but it costs nothing, takes two minutes, and gives AI tools a clean, accurate description of your business. Pair it with structured data, clear page content and open robots.txt rules for AI crawlers.
How do I add llms.txt to my website?
Download the file and upload it to the root folder of your site so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt. On WordPress, use your host’s file manager or FTP and put it next to wp-config.php, or use an SEO plugin that supports llms.txt. On Shopify, Wix and some other hosted platforms you may need an app or a redirect.

Should I edit the file before uploading it?
Yes, read it once. Check the summary is accurate, remove pages you do not want highlighted, and add anything important the generator could not find, such as documentation or pricing pages.
